ARTISTS PROFILE

Emma Middleton

Emma Middleton was born in Melbourne Australia. An artistically orientated child, she expressed an innate interest in art from an early age. She was greatly inspired by her maternal Grandmother, Linda Armstrong, a prolific and well respected artist working for charity, and by her paternal Great Grandfather, Bernardus Schilte de Veldt, a professional artist in Rotterdam, Holland.

A talented classical dance student, Middleton graduated from the Australian Ballet School in 1990 and accepted an invitation to join The Vienna Ballet, ' Badnerballet der Stadtheatre Wien' as a soloist. She continued to develop a passion for painting during the three years spent dancing professionally in Europe.

Emma Middleton returned to Australia in 1993 becoming the principal of Brighton Dance Academy in Melbourne. She designed and painted 12-metre by 6-metre backdrop canvasses used by the Academy for various Performances. During this period Middleton focused on creating a unique painting style to capture the expressive and often sensuous qualities of the human form, eventually pursuing her passion for art becoming full time professional in 1999.

Emma Middleton's work focuses on interpretation and expression of the sensuous qualities of the human form. Predominantly she works in pastel; a medium that has enabled her to develop a unique style characterised by a sublime velvety texture and exquisite contrasts.

Middleton has exhibited her work at various prominent galleries in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Her work is keenly sought and is held in private and corporate art investment collections in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and North America.
