ARTISTS PROFILE

Jill Kirstein

Born in Katoomba NSW in 1937, Jill Kirstein is a well known rose painter.

After the war she moved with her parents to Bulawayo, Rhodesia where she completed her schooling at the Bulawayo Dominican Convent. It was here at the convent she developed her interest in art and she started painting.

Jill later married a Rhodesian cattle farmer and started a family. She then became interested in flower arranging and her obvious artistic talents were reflected in her winning several cups and awards at exhibitions.

Her success in the field led her back to painting and she soon devoted her efforts to painting flowers in oils.

The success continued and in 1982 she was approached by the Peter Maritzburg Art Gallery in Natal, South Africa to act as sole agent on her behalf. In 1984, she was commissioned by the administrator of Natal to do two paintings for his residence and chambers, an honour which is only bestowed on some of the country’s leading artists.

In 1986 she returned to Australia permanently with her family where she now devotes her time painting flowers, especially roses. Her exquisite paintings have been selected to be reproduced in prints and on high quality coasters and placemats.

Jill’s paintings are represented in collections in the USA, England, Africa & Australia.
