ARTISTS PROFILE

Lorraine Rogers

Multi award winning artist, Lorraine Rogers, was born in Melbourne in 1953. Artistic talent ran in the family and although she showed some talents at a young age, she never dreamed of being a fulltime artist. She is largely self-taught although she owes a debt of gratitude to Robert Hammond, who taught her to draw and explore her creativity, and to John Lovett with whom she spent many years developing her design, colour and compositional skills.

Lorraine was trained as a nurse and went on to become a midwife before spending a year traveling around Australia with her husband. In 1982, a career opportunity enticed Lorraine and her family to Queensland. Lorraine embraced a new direction and for 10 years she ran a home based business manufacturing and hand-painting ladies resort wear which was distributed to boutiques Australia wide. During this time she continued to draw, paint and indulge in artistic exploration. She paints daily and her passion and love of colour and detail combine to reveal her unique style. Her technique conveys her belief in a balance between necessary structure and composition and a freedom of expression.

This talented artist has had both solo and group exhibitions and her work is represented in many private and municipal collections, both in Australia and overseas. Her works encompass everything from the romance of the landscape and Queenslander homes to the vitality and uniqueness of her abstracts. She commands much respect in the artistic community especially in the Gold Coast, where she has and continues to win many awards and prizes for her watercolours, pastels, life drawings, mixed media and most recently acrylic works. Lorraine also runs workshops and demonstrations, which have been enthusiastically received.

Lorraine continues to explore and excite her audience with new ideas and directions. Her main aim is to create pieces of art that are simply to be enjoyed. No political statements, no questions to be asked. Her motto – live the life you love, love the life you live.
